Pastels

There is an immediacy associated with working in pastels that I love. Pastels are relatively portable, so I often work in pastels when doing plein aire painting.

My pastels are usually landscapes or botanicals; however, as part of the Japanese Paper Place’s 2011 Washi Summit, I was invited to have a solo exhibition in a funky little gallery/cafe in Toronto’s West End.   I entitled my exhibition: Fandango in Washi.  I created Flamenco Dancer (I-III) for this exhibition along with five handmade fans, which I created entirely out of handmade Japanese paper (washi). the following are images of some of my figure work.
